Henry Sopkin Circle
Ham Smith, Planned Giving Chair

Henry Sopkin, the ASO's first Music Director, is credited with paving the way for the ASO to become what it is today. Hired in 1944, Brooklyn native Henry Sopkin came to Atlanta to direct the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Within 10 years, with a budget of $5,000, he developed the youth symphony into an adult professional organization that has grown into one of the foremost orchestras in the country. The Henry Sopkin Circle recognizes and thanks our friends who have included the ASO in their estate plans through planned giving.

Ensuring the ASO's continued distinction among the world's finest symphony orchestras and its place at the heart of Atlanta's cultural landscape, these donors share the same unique vision for the future of the ASO as Henry Sopkin did so many years ago.

Members and guests of the Henry Sopkin Circle enjoy special events and benefits throughout the season, including the Annual Henry Sopkin Circle Luncheon. This year’s luncheon will be held March 10th at the Four Seasons Hotel with special guest Robert Spano.
